Alternatively, you can use public transportation by taking the Regional Train RB26 from Bonn Main Train Station to Königswinter. This journey takes about 15-20 minutes. From there, be prepared to walk uphill for about 3 kilometers.

If walking doesn’t sound appealing, take the Drachenfelsbahn (a cogwheel train) from Königswinter to the Drachenburg Castle stop, which takes about 5 minutes.

Spring (April to June)

This is such a magical time to visit Bonn! If you’ve got a soft spot for beautiful blooms, you won’t want to miss the cherry blossoms on Kirschenallee (Cherry Blossom Street). The city bursts with color as the flowers open up, bringing a fairy-tale vibe to your visit. With mild temperatures between, it’s perfect for exploring the outdoors! Plus, there are plenty of cultural events and festivals to enjoy!

Summer (July to August)

Summer in Bonn can get warm and sunny, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) and sometimes even warmer. It’s a fantastic time to dive into activities along the Rhine River, like taking a boat trip or unwinding in one of the city’s parks.  Just keep in mind that it can be a bit crowded in popular spots during this time.

Winter (December to February)

If you love a cozy, festive atmosphere, winter in Bonn might be just your thing! While it can be chilly, with temperatures from 0°C to 5°C (32°F to 41°F) and a chance of snow, the Christmas markets in Bonn are simply delightful (and Christmas Markets in Germany are on the next level…) The city is beautifully decorated for the holidays, and while some outdoor attractions may be a bit nippy, there are still plenty of museums and indoor cultural gems to explore.

Fall is my least favorite time to travel to Bonn. September still offers pleasant weather. October and November are gray and rainy months when practically nothing is going on. If you, on the other hand, like the coziness that fall brings, Bonn can be a good place for a stopover.
